How To Adopt a MacCat

From time to time we have cats and kittens available for adoption into suitable homes. These are formerly feral, stray, or abandoned cats that are friendly enough to be placed in permanent homes.

All MacCats offered for adoption are already spayed or neutered and have received basic vaccinations.

We will accept adoption applications for kittens when they are 8 weeks old, and release them to their new homes after they have been altered and vaccinated — usually around 12 weeks of age.

Much thought goes into choosing an adoptive home for one of our cats. We want to be certain that both the cats and the adoptive parents are happy with the arrangements, so that they can live together for many years.

Some cats need the company of another cat or dog, some must be only pets. Some love small children, others are afraid of them.

For these reasons we interview all prospective pet parents. In some cases we do a home visit, to help the pet parents ensure that their new cat will be safe and secure. In all cases prospective pet parents are required to sign an adoption contract that specifies some of their responsibilities to their new pet.

Once a cat is placed in a new home, we do follow up calls to make sure that everything is going well.
